StrataVarious HyperMap Atlas
with Patented Clickable Keys

  The HyperMap Atlas is a demonstration of the powers of layered "smart graphics" for learning about geography.  The software is a template for assembling any place-related graphics and data into an easy-access Atlas with a multi-faceted clickable key.

In Fall 2006 two new HyperMap demos were launched with extensive XML databases of Seattle and USGS Minerals mines and plants.

The Boston Proper Atlas was launched on August 1, 2005 as a "beta-site" to show how interactive mapping can go to the next level of organizing place-related data for desk-top travel and viewing relationships between multiple map features.

In October 2005 two zoom-out levels were added using the Google Maps™ API to demonstrate how a GIS* can be transformed into a dynamic atlas with our patented clickable key and multi-layered, user-requested pop-ups.

Comparing Online Mapping APIs

In November 2005 similar demos were launched using the MSN Virtual Earth™ and Yahoo Maps™ APIs.  Comparison charts resulting from the demos provide an analysis of:
 Basic Developer Info;
 Some of the StrataVarious Javascripting within their APIs in terms of the Boston HyperMap Atlas related to
customizing markers, disabling pan, and making zoom maps;
 GUI Layering in the 3 mapping systems:
Google Maps, MSN Virtual Earth, and Yahoo Maps.

* A GIS (Geographic Information System) plots markers on a basemap using longitude and latitude.  The APIs for Google Maps, MSN Virtual Earth, and Yahoo Maps make their GIS available to anyone for plotting mappable data for a chosen geographic area.  The data must be "geo-coded" -- each marker given a longitude and latitude, often translated from a street address.

Layered HyperMaps

Demos of Layered HyperMaps with basemap-size graphic overlays were developed 1998-2001.
