Beyond Mashups -- The HyperMap Atlas
clickable, layered key provides access to multiple geo-topics

StrataVarious, Inc. has released two new demos of its HyperMap Atlas system that enables access to numerous topics via the patented layered key, in development since 1998.  The demos of Seattle and USGS Minerals mines and plants show the potential of the sophisticated javascript program that wraps around a GIS.  They use the publicly available base maps, marker plotting, and zoom functions of MSN, Google, and Yahoo maps apis.

While the popular map "mashups" of 2005 use these apis to plot all sorts of individual topics, the HyperMap Atlas goes beyond, enabling users to show a selection of topics and markers in one web page.  This capability is useful for trip-planning, geographic research, and analysis for business, government, and science.  Although at current Internet speeds there are still some loading lags and hesitation, ultimately the objective is an instantly responsive interface to support a flowing thought process. -- 11/06

HyperMap Atlas Features:
Clickable Key organizes an extensive set of geo-sites by topics for easy access and collection; so a selection of markers from different topics can be viewed in relationship to each other.
Message box below map gives tips and other messages.
Click a Key topic -- accesses XML data and presents it in an alphabetized listing with:
alpha tabs to scroll lists (bottom bar)
topics broken into sublists by subtopics
  or geographic location (top bar).
Click a listing and a marker with a red rim appears on the HyperMap with a hilite to identify it.
Name of marker geo-site appears in message box.
If the new marker is outside of the visible map area,
the system will reposition the map to the marker's
  latitude and longitude.
Click a collected listing and its marker will be hilited,
click again and marker will be hidden.
Markers have pop-ups with XML data.
Listing appears in My List of collected markers' sites.
Click Show All topic, will show all without red hilite rim.
 Marker pop-up allows collection in My List;
when collected, marker rim turns red.
clear all -- clears all collected markers.
My List -- a listing of collected markers:
Click to hilite on HyperMap, click again to hide.
My List is remembered between sessions
via cookie.  Offers to replot the previous collection
when user returns to HyperMap Altas.

Zoom bar -- click to reposition and zoom.
Compact graphic representation of relevant area maps.
