Mission Statement
Our Technology Mission:
"Universal access to maps and map-making"
Maps are any visual representation of multiple pieces of data (text or images) that are layed out so we can think about them in association with each other -- not only pictures of places, but image grids, organization charts, graphs, diagrams, and 3-D models.
StrataVarious provides dynamic data-viewing systems through which anyone can gain knowledge and new ideas through the hands-on process of map-making. It is the act of mapping that is important -- personally selecting and studying the choices to discover patterns and relationships, to gain understanding and insights, and to reach well-informed conclusions.
Our client-satisfaction mission:
To be known for excellence in crafting intelligent interactive software that:
| is easily integrated into existing information systems; and |
| realizes a substantial improvement in sales or decision-making insights. |
What drives us:
We are toolmakers.
We have chosen the name "StrataVarious" not only because it says "many and diverse layers" -- layering is the basis for classifying data and for making graphics dynamic. But the name also calls to mind the excellence of the master violinmaker Antonio Stradavarius.
We seek what we imagine was his gratification in crafting a line of elegant instruments. This drive however is augmented by the desire to see our instruments, our tools, in the hands of experts who use them to bring something special to appreciative audiences. The ultimate thrill is seeing how talented people use our creations in exciting, commendable ways that we, the maker, never expected.
We make instruments or tools for producing cognitive art -- visual representations that aid the comprehension of complex information sets. We expect our interactive catalogs, maps, charts, and diagrams will be used to facilitate better understanding of the world and more informed decisions.
